prm - group others

hi!

is there a limit for the group OTHERS???

on a single cpu-system we use 5% for this cpu-group. if i understand the system, then there should be a value of 3% for a 2-cpusystem ok. a 5-cpu system should have enough with 1% for the group others.

is there anyone who can say something to this problem.

Re: prm - group others

Hi,

The group OTHERS is for non-root processes that are started, and do not belong to any PRM group defenition ( e.g. On a multy oracle env. an sql script started by the oracle user). So this is a rest group that need to be defined in the future if some processes are started more frequently. When you start configuring PRM it depents on you settings. If you use capping i would make it bigger (10%) if you do not use capping you can make it smaller (e.g. 5%). I dont think there is a hard limit only a smart limit.

Re: prm - group others

Take a read of the manual HP Process REsource Manager Users Guide http://docs.hp.com/hpux/pdf/B8733-90009.pdf

There are a lot of explanations in here.
Basically, group OTHERS is meant to take any processes that do not fall into the PRM_SYS group, or any other specifically defined PRM group
Do nt make it too low, or you may find unexpected behaviour from processes that get assigned to this group
