PRM stories?
I would like to hear from folks who are using PRM (process resource manager).
I have been having problems in getting it to
work. The installation, setup was easy.
But, the darn thing doesn't kick off as per
the setup. (assigning CPU usage limits between two user id's on a set of shares). It has
no effect on the allocation of CPU resources.
So for people who have gone through this
and got it working - can you please share
your experiences.
thanks

Re: PRM stories?
We have a MC/SG cluster running and thougt about implementing PRM. I guess you know how it works. Yu create a configuration file and assign PRM groups(user and executable wise). But before we activate it we wanted to know how to devide the resources so we only loaded the configuration without activating it and we had the problem that some processes ended up in an other PRM group, and when we activated it (test systems) the problem was solved. I do not know with version you installed but that problem was fixed in the latest version. We did not go ahead with implementation of it becouse it was to mutch work to keep the PRM configuration up to date ( updates on packages, switch scenarios, etc.). For a regular system i think PRM is a good tool. Yust install the latest version.

Re: PRM stories?
Try using the CAPON feature on PRM to restrict in usage its allowed quota.
#prmconfig -M CPUCAPON
Thanks.
Prashant.

Re: PRM stories?
That's the only time there'll be resource allocation/deallocation.
You might need WLM although that's not free like PRM.
Later,
Bill

Re: PRM stories?
You should be able to keep processes in tome by activating capping. If you do not activate it only starts when utalization reaches 100%.

Re: PRM stories?
it seems like PRM is really working at HP-UX 11.i, the way it did some things on 11.0 was a little *brain-dead*... oops, I meant: the implementation was sub-optimal ;-)
Just my $0.02,
