PRMs and VPARs

Hi. Can anyone tell me if it is possible to use PRMs to allocate CPUs across VPARs? If so, how? I'm running two VPARs on an rp8400 running 11i. PRM is not currently installed but we would like to if it has the capability to move CPUs across VPARs.

Re: PRMs and VPARs

Eric,

As I understand PRM, it's use would be restricted to *within* VPARs.

Re: PRMs and VPARs

You're going to have to use VPARMODIFY to move CPU's around. PRM will work within a VPAR/NPAR.

Re: PRMs and VPARs

Although PRM does not provide the functionality you are seeking, WLM (Workload Manager) does.

Visit http://www.hp.com/go/wlm for info.

In particular:

* On the "information library" page, there is a white paper titled: "Resizing vPars automatically with HP-UX Workload Manager"

The paper shows how to use the graphical WLM Configuration Wizard to configure WLM for vPar resizing.

* On the "case studies/example configurations" page, there are two configurations of interest:

- vpar_usage_goal.wlm
- vpar_usage_goal.wlmpar

These files are generalizations of the files that are developed in the white paper.
