pro & cons network printer vs. remote printer installation

Hi,

I found two solutions to install network printers with JetDirect cards.

a) with lpadmin as remote printers
b) with hppi as network printers

What are the differences, pro & contras of both solutions?

Thanks in advance,

Lothar

Re: pro & cons network printer vs. remote printer installation

It???s a comparison of ways to administrate so the discussion should focus on consistency within your company verses staying up to date.

Remote is old tech and used less and less but making a comeback because of Linux.

Cross platform abilities are also the focus. You see applications on several platforms for marketing reasons or sales reasons because everybody???s struggling.

WebJetadmin and its predecessor JetAdmin are my preferences, although HPPI is comparable but arguably in HP???s future. So I???d recommend WebJetadmin for consistency with HP only.

In closing, everybody???s struggling and competing for the elusive sale so everybody???s venturing into other platforms. Be wary of this and research the dominant product on the platform you have most of within your company.

(* You???re also stretching into a Windows vs. UNIX and a proprietary vs. open systems architecture discussion. *)

Hi

The network printer scripts allow you to use all of the options available on your printer

The remote printer script does not.

End of story.

If you have a modern multi functional printer you want to use it.

There are also network solutions which work on HP from other companies.
