We have two 3740 Fiber Channel cards in a N class server running HP-UX 11.00. These cards are connected to and EMC array via HP (brocade) switches. After replacing the card we are unable to see the alternate links on the EMC disks. The following is an ioscan -fn grep "FCP Array".
fcp 0 0/2/0/0.8 fcp CLAIMED INTERFACE FCP Protocol Adapter
ext_bus 11 0/2/0/0.8.0.18.2 fcparray CLAIMED INTERFACE FCP Array Interface
ext_bus 4 0/2/0/0.8.0.255.1 fcpdev CLAIMED INTERFACE FCP Device Interface
fcp 1 1/0/0/0.8 fcp CLAIMED INTERFACE FCP Protocol Adapter
ext_bus 7 1/0/0/0.8.0.13.0 fcparray CLAIMED INTERFACE FCP Array Interface
ext_bus 12 1/0/0/0.8.0.13.2 fcparray CLAIMED INTERFACE FCP Array Interface
ext_bus 8 1/0/0/0.8.0.255.0 fcpdev CLAIMED INTERFACE FCP Device Interface
I noticed that this servers sister server has 4 FCP array interfaces and this one only has 3. The machines are exactly alike so why would one show 3 vs the other showing 4. Also why are we unable to see the disks with this 3740?
Thanks,
Jason

Solution
The new fibre card probably has a new world wide name (like a Mac address on a lancard) so the EMC probably doesnt know about it - unless you got EMC to update their software (db on a PC - usually EMC Control Centre/Symmetrix Manager) and modify the zone for the new world wide name on your fibre card. Then you need to present the vols again from the EMC end.
Im from Palmerston North, New Zealand, but somehow ended up in London...

Re: Problem after 3740 Fiber Channel card replacement
Most disk arrays assign disk based onthe unique world wide name of the Fiber card. Its like a serial number.
The LUNS assigned to the old card need to be assigned to a new World Wide Name at the disk array.
