Problem after H/W Patch implementation
Hi, Everybody
My HP boxes are of N4000 with hp-ux 11.0 configured in MC service guard.
Recently we updated the H/W enablement patch and STM software.
Then after Event Monitor started giving warning and critical messages indicating some problem on FC channel.
As part of diagnosis, I removed the STM and reinstalled the older version and BOOTED THE SYSTEM WITH OLD KERNEL.
By this I could stop the warning messages related to the Fiber channel.
But now system started giving some problem related to cluster volumes because of Patch inconsistency.
How can I overcome this???
Will this get solve if I Boot the system with new kernel??
Thanks in advance
Manoj

Re: Problem after H/W Patch implementation
You can get it here:
http://www.software.hp.com/cgi-bin/swdepot_parser.cgi/cgi/displayProductInfo.pl?productNumber=A5158A
As far as the messages are concerned, you run the 'fcmsutil' command to look at your FC cards. This may display some further assistance.
e.g.
# /opt/fcms/bin/fcmsutil /dev/td1
# /opt/fcms/bin/fcmsutil /dev/td1 stat
If is it unclear, you might want to post the messages from EMS.

Re: Problem after H/W Patch implementation
Hi Michael
The EMS warning and critical messages was due to the newly installed STM software.
After removal of STM the EMS warning messages stopped coming.
How will I solved the other problem mention in the above message?
Thanks & Regards
Manoj

Re: Problem after H/W Patch implementation
You're going to probably want to go over what you installed, and think about backing up certain patches, based on your symptoms one at a time.
I would ask how current you were on such things as fiber patches and other software subsystems.
It seems to me, based on experience your problem may be due partially to problems with prior patch installatoins.
WE had a HWE patch set trigger a whole bunch of problems once, because I'd missed a problem with a major patch installtion during the prior maintenance period.

Re: Problem after H/W Patch implementation
Hi All,
I tried upgrading STM to B.11.00.23.10. Since this version has compatibility problem with MC Service guard and so I removed and reinstalled original STM version B.11.00.13.16.
QPK Patches are not installed along with the H/W enablement patch.
Steven, you are exactly right and I also feel the same thing. But how can I solve the patch inconsistency?
I hope it can solve by booting system with new kernel (vmunix.after_patch).
One strange thing is that I have checked the difference between following command outputs.
#what vmunix.after_patch
#what vmunix.before_patch
I could not find any difference between these commands output and the size of both kernels are exactly same.
Thanks & Regards
Manoj
