Problem booting from 4SI RAID
I have two L-class servers (one L1000, one L2000), both with RAID 4SI card and 4xDS2100 arrays.
I'd like to do a cold install, loading the OS onto the external disks and using them for boot.
But when I boot from the CoreOS CD, it doesn't "see" the 4SI card. The manual says to boot from CD, goto "Advanced Options", and then "Configure A5856A RAID 4Si card".
Alas, that option doesn't appear in my "Advanced" menu and I can't select the configured RAID drive on later screens. Note that the configured RAID drives *do* appear when I SEArch for bootable devices from the boot menu.
PDC=41.39.
4SI=01.06
Any ideas? TIA.

Re: Problem booting from 4SI RAID
Problem update: The problem occurs with the brand-new September 2002 disk I just received (11.00).
But an older copy (December 2001) works fine.
What's up with that?

Re: Problem booting from 4SI RAID
It might be useful to try to boot with the debug option, to see if any useful messages are printed.
To boot with the debug option, boot from the CD, but select ISL and at the ISL prompt do "hpux -i1 :INSTALL"

Re: Problem booting from 4SI RAID
Thanks, Ron, for the reply. I just went ahead and reloaded using the older (12/2001) CD.
So everything is now working great and I doubt I'll have time to go back and troubleshoot the newer install disk.
My first guess was some sort of bug in the 9/2002 release, but of course that's what us users always say, eh?
Still, seems weird that, after a cold boot, one CD would "see" the card and the other wouldn't. And this happened on two systems (one L1000, one L2000). Usually my problems are due to something I'm screwing up, but I'm having trouble figuring out how I could have messed up this one... not much opportunity between "power on" and "boot p2".
Anyway, thanks again for your time.
