Re: problem in access

Please post details, i.e. a "ll" output of the directory ("ll ." when you are in it), "ll" of the file, output of "id", the failing command and its output, etc..

Re: problem in access

Also, output from the 'groups' command for you and your group mate would be helpful.

Another possibility is that you don't have search (execute) access to some earlier component in the pathname. For example, if the file is /foo/bar/ugh/baz/beep, does a cd to /foo/bar/ugh/baz work for you? If not, the problem is with the directories above the file, not the file itself.

Re: problem in access

Check the permissions to that directory where the file resides.

Are you able to see the file. Possibly permissions are not available for you to go into that directory.

The application owner may have directory permissions to do that. This is all i can say for now. if you post a ll output for that file and the directory and the permissions owned by your id, it would be very simple to provide the resolution.

Re: problem in access

Hi,
just a thought ...
if all the permissions are correct and still you are getting this error,
1>Pls check whether there is any "ACL" ( Access Control List ) set on the file. It may happen that your collegue has been granted read-write-execute access, but for you it may be only read-execute access.
2>Is there any ACCESS-Control software like SeOS or e-Trust running on the system, wherein explicit permissions have been given to your collegue to access the file through a particular program.

Rgds...
