problem in configuring multiple network cards

Dear all
We are having HP-UX server with 5 NIC's installed in it, I want to assign different IP address to each one off them, I managed to configure IP to lan0 & lan1 & its working fine , but the moment I configure lan2 with IP lan1 stops working & vice versa.
Is there any specific setting we have to do somewhere in HP-UX?
please advice
Many thanks

Re: problem in configuring multiple network cards

HP-UX does not support the ips on same subnet. you will have to give five different ips from five diff subnets.

Re: problem in configuring multiple network cards

It sounds like you are trying to configure lan cards on the same subnet, which you cannot do.

Re: problem in configuring multiple network cards

ok thanks for the info.
my lan0 is having IP address-192.168.200.25
Lan1- 192.168.199.2
I am trying to configure lan2 to 192.168.199.25
so this means i will have to change lan2 ip other than 199 or 200 series.
thanks lots for this info.

Re: problem in configuring multiple network cards

if your subnet mask is 255.255.255.0, yes you need to find a different number for the 3rd octet, otherwise, you can scale down your subnet size, by utilizing a different subnet mask and still stay in the same range but this requires cooperation (very close one at that) of your network administrators if you do not want to pull your hair.

Re: problem in configuring multiple network cards

If your subnet mask is 255.255.255.0 then you should be OK with those IPs.

If your subnet mask is 255.255.0.0 or 255.0.0.0 then those IPs are not OK. (This is a simple case)

After each change check your hosts file to see which hostname maps to which address - sam is not very good at editing the hosts file.
