Re: Problem mounting DVD drive with NFS and need tips on upgrading HP-UX 11.0 to 11.23

Since you have to upgrade from 11.00 to 11.11 in order to upgrade to 11.23, it would be reasonable to do a cold install.
You'll need a local CD/DVD drive or an ignite server to do this.

Hope this helps!

To use upgrade-ux you would have to go to 11i v1 first.

The chances of anything working right after two conversions is practically nill.

The best way to upgrade is to not and do a cold install.

If your hardware supports 11i v2 then you can rebuild from a clean, stable install.

Re: Problem mounting DVD drive with NFS and need tips on upgrading HP-UX 11.0 to 11.23

You need to use the read-only option while exporting:

# /usr/bin/vi /etc/exports
/exported_dir -ro,anon=2

# /usr/sbin/exportfs â av

If you wish to use swinstall with the DVD source, it's also a good idea to swcopy the software to a depot and use the network option for swinstall.

Hope this helps!

Re: Problem mounting DVD drive with NFS and need tips on upgrading HP-UX 11.0 to 11.23

Yet another reason NOT to try to upgrade from 11.0 to 11.23. You cannot extend / because it must remain contiguous (no gaps), so you have to first run make_tape_recovery to save vg00, then reinstall from the tape but change the size of /. Lots of luck with all the problems you'll see in this upgrade. A cold install will be successful.
