Problem running commands
When i do an ioscan -fnC disk the server will hang for days and never report back (just sits there). Same thing when i try to run a MR. Not sure what is going on here. I can resolve the server using nslookup and have the latest patches. Any ideas what could be going on?
funny thing is i can run ioscan -funC disk and that works.

Re: Problem running commands
Running 'ioscan' with the '-u' switch means that you are limiting the scan to "usable" devices and not the entire hardware set.
It would appear from your description that you have a non-responsive piece of hardware that causes the hang.
Look for any EMS alerts, particularly if you do a full 'ioscan' (without '-u' and/or without '-k').
Look to for anything in your 'syslog.log'.
Regards!

Re: Problem running commands
Finding it when ioscan hangs is not easy.
if one ioscan hangs all other ioscans will hang as well. need to reboot in between or wait "days" for the previous to finish.
I would reduce the issue, boot offline diags maybe and attempt to find your bad device that way by process of elimination.
or
reduce the system by unplugging all external io, running ioscan, then plugging in external bus' one at a time until it hangs again by process of elimination.
This all takes time and dedication, if you have maint contract, let them trouble shoot.
BTW, make_tape_recovery probably runs an ioscan and the reason for that failing/hanging as well.
Best of luck.
