Problem seting up sendmail

Hi,

I want to set up a Sendmail server .
I have three HP-UX server on local net
I have one exchange server connected to Internet.
No I want to setup my HP unix server such that it will
Send and receive messages locally from each other ( Currently they are doing so )
And for outside mails it should go through Exchange server from Internet ( to yahoo.com etc )
In my /etc/host file I have set ip add for all the local server and exchange server.
I have customized the sendmail.cf fo variable Dj.xyz.com ( my local domain )
and DRmail.abc.com( My exchange server )
But nothing is working local as well as external.
I am geting following error
Deferred: Name server: xyx.com: host name lookup failure)
host map: lookup (aaa.com): deferred)

Can some one tell me detail steps to do this task???

Re: Problem seting up sendmail

Hi,

look at /etc/nsswitch.conf if you have there
the entry:
hosts: files
Also check with nslookup if you get a correct response

Re: Problem seting up sendmail

Copy /usr/newconfig/etc/nsswitch.conf to /etc/ and update your /etc/hosts file with the server names and ip addresses.
Stop and start sendmail.(/sbin/init.d/sendmail stop/start)

Re: Problem seting up sendmail

Try setting the DS macro in the /etc/mail/sendmail.cf with the exchange server, then stop/restart sendmail.

DSexchange.mail.com

/sbin/init.d/sendmail stop
/sbin/init.d/sendmail start

Re: Problem seting up sendmail

Parting shot: Exchange's IMC (Internet Mail Connector) can be set up to allow/deny traffic from both sides of the network. Make sure the IMC will allow outbound traffic to be relayed to it from the UNIX system.
