Problem Starting SSHD on HP-UX 11.00 system
The sshd daemon is unable to start on our 11.00 system. The error message that I am seeing is the following:
Couldn't connect to PRNGD socket "/var/run/egd-pool": Connection refused.
Entropy collection failed.
ssh-rand-helper child produced insufficient data.
How can I correct this? Thanks.

Re: Problem Starting SSHD on HP-UX 11.00 system
My 11i system started doing that before its network card died.
I'd check the following:
1) /etc/services has ssh or sshd on port 22.
2) netstat -an to see if something is running on port 22.
3)swverify \* | grep -i secure
to see of secure shell(sshd/openssh) is installed correctly.
4) Check permission on /var/run/egd-pool and /var run and that sufficient disk space exists on /var(ie not 100% full).
5) See that ipfilter firewall is not running
6) See that ssh_config and sshd_config are in existance and have normal entries in them (perhaps compare to a working system).

Re: Problem Starting SSHD on HP-UX 11.00 system
check whether PRNGD server is running or not. Also, try to restart it.

Re: Problem Starting SSHD on HP-UX 11.00 system
Since you are on 11.0 unfortunately HP never provided a program/solution for a random numbner generator. If you install HP's version of Secure shell it should not complain about the lack of a random number generator, it will use its own internal generator. This is not the best option for secure shell due to speed etc. but it will work.
You may want to download a public domain version of PRNGD from the links provided earlier in this post.
For HPUX 11.11 we provide a random number generator that can be downloaded from the our software page, for HPUX 11.23 and greater is built in.
