Re: problem with command vxdump

man vxdump:

On most devices vxdump detects end-of-media and prompts you to change the media if there is insufficient space, so it is not necessary to specify the size of the device. However, if the dump will require multiple tapes and the tapes are to be read using an older version of vxrestore, or if the tape device handles end-of-media in a way that vxdump doesn't recognize, then you must specify the size of the device using the -B option or a combination of the -d and -s options.

Re: problem with command vxdump

pipe vxdump through dd when writing to tape - this also removes your problem of vxdump (or dump) sometimes incorrectly determining tape lenght. We pipe it through dd and it works great 100% of the time.

Re: problem with command vxdump

Hi Harry

thanks for the reply , i dont need to say to you that i thing i can say the man pages of vxdump in 03:00 a.m .

i agree with you about using the option -B but the issue is that is need to fail every time that i do it and not one every two weeks .

this issue also acour after i m putting the second tape .
