Problem with DDS drive

Problem with DDS drive

I have rp4440, and tape drive DDS4 (P/N:C6369A). This DDS drive won't work with rp4440, but it works with older rp5450.
Interesting is that rp4440 works fine with tape drive DDS5 (P/N: Q1524B).
Problem is not in SCSI ID, or terminator.
Any idea?
Help!!!

Re: Problem with DDS drive

What do you mean by it doesn't work? Are you getting error messages. Is the device seen by ioscan? Do you have the correct driver loaded in the kernel?

Re: Problem with DDS drive

No, device isn't seen by ioscan.
And there isn't any error message.
It works fine with DDS5, so i think drivers are OK.

Re: Problem with DDS drive

Hi,
I think you have to add stape driver to kernel.
(use SAM)

after that run:
insf -e -C tape

Re: Problem with DDS drive

Where did you connect the drive (which port/card)?

Hope this helps!

Re: Problem with DDS drive

Hi,

kcmodule -C "Adding module stape" stape=best

after this command, you have to reboot your server and type the following command:

insf -e -C tape

Re: Problem with DDS drive

Drivers are in place, as I see in SAM.
kcmodule doesn't exist on system.
An I use PCI Slot 1 (core I/O) for tape connection.

Re: Problem with DDS drive

The most left card?

Depending on the internal disk configuration there is *NO* port or the upper port *ONLY* supported for external devices.

see Installation Guide
http://docs.hp.com/en/A9950-96005-en/A9950-96005-en.pdf

page 76

post an "ioscan -fn" output for finding out if this is simplex or duplex configuration.

Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.

Re: Problem with DDS drive

The rp4440 uses a A6829A dual port Ultra160 card for slot 1/Core IO. I have had issues as well trying to get that card to "see" that tape drive. The C5683A is the same DDS4 mech as the C6369A. I think there is a problem with that drive. If you search the past forums, you will see a lot of people with your same problem.

Re: Problem with DDS drive

Here is output of H/W Path for this card.
Torsten, is this enough?

Re: Problem with DDS drive

In attch., which I send, there is connected DDS5, not DDS4.

Re: Problem with DDS drive

Since your internal disk drives are in simplex configuration mode, you may use the upper port *ONLY* to connect external devices. Never use the lower connector!
Did you connect the DDS4 drive to the upper connector?

Hope this helps!

Torsten.

Re: Problem with DDS drive

Yes, it was connected to upper connector.
I tried with another DDS4 drive, and it still doesn't work.
