Re: Problem with disk_em and diaglogd

These processes are parts of "Diagnostic and Support Tools" and normally it's a very good thing to have them running, as they will detect and report hardware failures.

That kind of CPU time consumption is clearly excessive. Which version of the diagnostics you're running? If it's an old one, consider getting up to date (it's free, and can be upgraded without rebooting the server):

I'll definitely NOT recommend uninstalling the diagnostic software.

Re: Problem with disk_em and diaglogd

Massi,

It is not recommended to stop permanently, because Diagnostic tools is very important for HP troubleshooting.

please check your current STM version.

http://docs.hp.com/en/diag/stm/stm_upd.htm#table

There is STM patches which will fix the issue.

Mb,

# swlist -l product | grep -i Sup-Tool-Mgr

Re: Problem with disk_em and diaglogd

Are you getting any events logged in /var/opt/resmon/log/event.log? Also, run STM and run logtool from there - are there a lot of SCSI I/O errors being logged? The most likely cause of what you're seeing is a disk problem generating a lot of I/O errors which diaglogd and disk_em need to process. If that's the case, it's the hardware that needs to be fixed.

As already advised, you should check you have a current version of the OnlineDiags, this table should help - http://www.docs.hp.com/en/diag/stm/stm_upd.htm#table

Re: Problem with disk_em and diaglogd

If the system is the same like in your other thread

http://forums1.itrc.hp.com/service/forums/questionanswer.do?threadId=1168344

version C.46.05
you should really update it!

This version is from September 2004!

Hope this helps!

Torsten.

Re: Problem with disk_em and diaglogd

And if this is the same system as in another of your threads,
http://forums1.itrc.hp.com/service/forums/questionanswer.do?threadId=1160426

then you've already had the answer, that it's likely to be a SCSI device that's reporting a lot of errors causing your disk to fill up, and disk_em and diaglogd to burn CPU.

What happened on that system?
