Problem with HP printers

Problem with HP printers

when i define a HP printer with jetadmin in some cases when i want to print i have to push
"Go" on the printer panel in order to let the printout do out the printer. to avoid this i should modify the printer driver ( /etc/lp/interface/model.orig/printer) setting the variable "paper " to A4 from the initial setting "def".
This happens only for some printers( for example HP4100N).
how come?
How can i fix the problem without modifying the variable 'paper "given that for the printer HP4000 i don't have to modify anything?

Re: Problem with HP printers

Federico,

I can't point you to the exact location of the files, but jetadmin keeps the model template scripts somewhere in the /opt/hpnp/admin tree.

Issue "find /opt/hpnp/admin -type f -exec grep -qli a4 \;" to locate the templates and then modify them.

Oops. I meant:

"find /opt/hpnp/admin -type f -exec grep -qli a4 {} \;"

Re: Problem with HP printers

I had the exact same problem a while ago when updating from a very old version of HP Jetadmin.

If you dond want to change the modelscripts, you have to change ste settings on the printer:

- Start Jetadmin and choose option 3 (Administration -manage HP printer, Jetdirect)

- Enter the name of the printer you want to modify

- Then you should get a menu with two options ('LaserJet XXXX Remote Config Utility' and 'JetDirect Remote Card Configuration). Choose the first one ('LaserJet XXXX Remote Config Utility). If you don't get this menu then the printer is not configurable remotely and yo have to do it via the front-panel

- In the next Menu choose option 8 ('Page Configuration'). You then get the menu where you the default page properties.

- The first point in this next menu should be 'Default Paper size. Set this to 'ISO and JIS A4' and quit out of this utility.

If you have a large number of printers it might be easier to just change the modelscripts :-)
