Problem with Netscape and 11i

On our server if the Oracle user opens Netscape and uses the address http://127.0.0.1:7777, they are directed to a Oracle web page. If they use http://localhost:7777, they are unable to get to the page. As root I can do both correctly. I can ping both and perform a nslookup and resove the addresses. Does anyone have any ideas? All help is appreciated. Thanks....

I assume that you have a localhost entry in /etc/hosts?

127.0.0.1 localhost loopback

If the user is logging into the machine and then running netscape I would assume they should get the same result you are.

If they are not logging into the server then they should try putting in the IP address of the server where the web pages are: (ie what is the real address for the localhost).

http://xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx:7777
where xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx is the ipaddress of the host where the web page resides.

Also if you have a proxy server in your network and no wins/dns server then you must reference the host by hostname and add the real ip address to the hosts file on the users PC/workstation etc....

I need to know how the users are trying to connect locally or remotely?

What does "nslookup localhost" return?

What is the configuration of netscape for connection to internet and proxies??

What version of netscape??

What does /etc/nsswitch.conf look like?

What about /etc/resolv.conf??
