Problem with NFS - Server HPUX 11.11 client: Linux

Hi,

I have a severe NFS Performance Problem:

Using a HP-UX 11.11 server and a Linux client (SuSE SLES) the data troughput is horrible low - about 300 KB/s . using ftp - both directions the troughput is about 7MB/s. Using the same client and a HP-UX 11.00 Server the troughput is about 4 MB/s.
I have to use mount ... vers=2 on the linux client when mounting from 11.11.
mounting from 11.00 there is no need for this parameter.

thanks

Hello,

I had the same Problem @RH7.3 with HPUX 11.00,
FTP seems good, NFS bad....

Check this from Bugzilla:
http://bugzilla.redhat.com/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=64984
I've devised two different and acceptable workarounds:

(1) I recompiled the kernel source after changing the defined constant
in nfs_fs.h for the *maximum* blocksize from 32768 to 8192. The
defined constant for the default blocksize (4096) in that file
appears to have no bearing on this issue. This fixes the problem.

OR

(2) It is also possible to specifically set the localoptions
variable in /etc/rc.d/init.d/autofs to the value 'rsize=8192,wsize=8192'.
This works even without recompiling the kernel.

Maybe your problem is the same....

Consider Samba(Linux)/CIFS.

It avoids performance issues associaated with NFS.

Is NFS current? That makes a difference on the HP side. Current versions deal with many performance issues.
