Problem with NIS Accounts

I have modified a Path at an Account. After that Sam asked me for an update and then on all Computers the Accounts don´t work any more.

Thanks Ren

Re: Problem with NIS Accounts

Hi Ren,

I'm sorry, but I can't follow your explanation of what happened and what is now not working.

Are you saying that the NIS client cannot retrieve any NIS map information from the servers? Some other symptom?

Please provide a detailed explanation of what exactly changed, and exactly what works and doesn't work now.

Thanks,

Dave

Re: Problem with NIS Accounts

What does /var/adm/syslog/syslog.log show on the server?

Have you got backup copies of the amended files?

Re: Problem with NIS Accounts

Access denied for (ip address) does not look like the result of amending the passwd file. Any other files amended?

Expanding on my backup question, is there a recent (e.g. last night) backup tape available?

Re: Problem with NIS Accounts

It strikes me that several files have today's date by them.

Unfortunately, we are at the limit of my knowledge of HP-UX's networking and I think it's time to hand over to someone better able to help.

Rene - have you thought of posting this in the networking section of the forums? The people best able to help you may not have seen this thread.
