Problem with picking password?

Problem with picking password?

I have two Visualize workstations, both running 10.20. On both machines I needed to change sppuser's password (these are used as consoles for 2 V-class systems). One machine allowed me to pick the new password (as it should), the other won't. It will only allow the system to either generate a random string or a pronouncable string. Why did I lose the cabability to pick the password on this machine and how do I fix it?

TIA!

Re: Problem with picking password?

Is the machine, which is not allowing this in trusted mode?

Re: Problem with picking password?

Hi,

It sounds like someone has trusted one of your workstations. You have a couple of options:

1) untrust the system using SAM.

2) use SAM to set the password choice back to "pick password."

As an aside, 10.20 requires a few critical patches before it should be trusted. I recall that the patching for V-class console workstations was very closely controlled. I'm also unsure whether you can have a trusted system for a V-class console.

Darren.

They're both running as trusted systems.

Re: Problem with picking password?

Thanks, Darren. I wasn't aware of the setting in SAM. I don't usually deal with "security" issues on these systems. We have a "Security" shop that deals with user accounts, security parms, etc. Long story I won't go into here, this is a Gov't site...

Anyway, the setting in SAM somehow got changed so I set it back to allow users to pick their own passwords and all is well again!

You got some good points here...

Thanks again!
