Problem with ps: "not enough memory for hash table"

I've got a server that whenever I try to do a ps it errors reporting:

ps: not enough memory for hash table

Any ideas what could cause this?

hmm, sounds like your system may have memory pressures. What version of HP-UX are you running?
My house is the bank's, my money the wife's, But my opinions belong to me, not HP!

seems like a memory shortage, but there's also a patch which addresses this error:
PHNE_30816 for 11i
PHNE_25502 for 11.0

All unix flavours are exactly the same . . . . . . . . . . for end users anyway.
