Problem with Secure Shell 3.50 for HP-UX 11.00

This does not apply to any other OS.

If you download the depot from software.hp.com and check it with the sum command.

You get:
[2078]# sum /tmp/T1471AA_A.03.50.000_HP-UX_B.11.00_32+64.depot
33086 17560 /tmp/T1471AA_A.03.50.000_HP-UX_B.11.00_32+64.depot

If you install it, you get the following results from this test:

[2069]# getconf KERNEL_BITS
32
jufdev: [ /patches ]
[2070]# file /usr/sbin/sshd
/usr/sbin/sshd: PA-RISC2.0 shared executable dynamically linked
jufdev: [ /patches ]

If you try and start secure shell daemon with the following command you get bad results:

/sbin/init.d/secsh start
/opt/ssh/sbin/sshd: Execute permission denied.
EXIT CODE: 126

If you are having trouble with secure shell run the sum command against your depot. You should get the following results:

[2096]# sum T1471AA_A.03.50.depot
20838 17520 T1471AA_A.03.50.depot

1 point for confirmation/denial of condition. If you got around it without downloading a new depot from HP, more points possible.

The support resolution of this issue was to set up an ftp site which gave me the correct depot.

As you don't want to download the depot again, you can try to find out when exactly the error
"Execute permission denied" occur. You can start editing the file /sbin/init.d/secsh and add the -x option to the line "#!/sbin/sh".

This problem has been solved by downloading the correct depot. In my opinion the depot at software.hp.com is wrong. The binary shows up as a PA-RISC2.0 shared executable dynamically linked instead of a 1.1 shared executable.

Looking for confirmation and alternate, tested solutions.

HP(Berlene) has confirmed that there is a problem with the depot provided by software.hp.com

Though one would think the fix would be putting the right depot in the right place in HP's system, us customers can no know the ways of the wizard.

This thread is now closed as far as I'm concerned. My recommendation is to not install the depot from HP(11.00 only) and those that need it get it from support via ftp.

I will not be posting the depot, but am avaialble if anyone is having trouble with this issue.

I am not sure there is a correct url for this.

HP Support had to open up a support ftp site for me to get it.

This is where the correct depot is SUPPOSED to be.
