problems about connecting and installing IBM tape library to the SD32000

dear all,
i've got problems when i connect an Adic tape library to SD32000 through SAN enviroment.
firstly i installed all the needed patches for Adic on the SD32000, and then Adic installed their driver for tape library, then the tape drives were CLAIMED in ioscan output, this meant that the installation was ok.
but, after i reboot the SD32000, problems appeared. those drives did not showed in the output of ioscan -fnCtape, and the output of ioscan -fnd atdd(atdd was the needed driver):

Class I H/W Path Driver S/W State H/W Type Description

unknown 3 0/0/3/0/0.1.4.0.0.0.5 atdd UNCLAIMED UNKNOWN IBM ULTRIUM-TD2
the rc.log told that:

and then, i reinstall the adic program(it would first de-install the driver atdd and then reinstall it),everything is ok.
could you please offer me some hints to deal with the problem?

Stephen,

Looks like you have problem getting the device files,

You can do as follows:

# ioscan -fnC tape
# insf -C tape
# ioscan -fnC tape

cheers,
Raj.

Raj,
that is not device file problem, take attention to the unknown class of ioscan output. the system could not recognize what device they were!

Re: problems about connecting and installing IBM tape library to the SD32000

Hi Stephen,

What kind of IBM library is it?

If I look at the install guide for these IBM LTO drives you should download and install the IBM driver.

HP-UX 11i drivers for 3590, 3592, and TS1120 Tape Drives

Re: problems about connecting and installing IBM tape library to the SD32000

hi Goossens,
you could read that the driver atdd for the IBM tape drive was installed, and, if i do not reboot the SD32000, everything is ok, and the output of ioscan -fnkCtape is :

Re: problems about connecting and installing IBM tape library to the SD32000

Are these tapes connected to any other system as well?

I mean to say, we are facing this issue on this server only or on all servers which are connected to these tape drives.

Could you please check the what /stand/vmunix output, do you find atdd driver included or not.. same can be checked by SAM as well.

Normally we don't see these kind of issues once the driver is installed..

Re: problems about connecting and installing IBM tape library to the SD32000

Mridul,
hi,
i could read the atdd in kmsystem's output when there was problem, did it mean that the driver is loaded?
both SD32000s have the same problem.

thanks

Re: problems about connecting and installing IBM tape library to the SD32000

you mean to say it was there and showing configured as "YES"....

Could you please check the same by executing the following commands:

what /stand/vmunix |grep -i atdd
kmsystem |grep -i atdd

Re: problems about connecting and installing IBM tape library to the SD32000

You need to install some patches for atdd driver also. I faced littele bit different problem with atdd/acdd driver. After I installed tose drivers my Server didn't boot. And it worked after I loaded all the latest patches. Pls check the IBM site.

Re: problems about connecting and installing IBM tape library to the SD32000

Stephen,

So as per the last output after reboot, the tape drive shows in CLAIMED status, so what is the problem you are facing now.

Many time atdd driver fails due to variuos reason, check /etc/rc.log , after system booted. If it has given error or failed check the rc script named something like Sxxatdd and try to debug.

Please provide more info,

Raj.
