problems after patch install
I posted this to sysadmin and got no response but possibly that wasn't the best forum so I'll try here. I have a D370 running 10.20 with one onboard lan interface and a GSC card with two interfaces. Before the recent install of patch bundle for Dec. 2001, the internal and GSC had been working fine for years. After the patch bundle install my GSC network interface disappeared and has resisted all attempts to re-establish it. I can see the card but not the network interface. I installed patch PHNE_22216 in the hope of recovering and got this error when it tried to build the kernel:
NOTE: Building a new kernel based on template file "/stand/system"

It actually leaves the software but of course the new drivers aren't installed in the kernel. /usr/lib has these files in it after 22216 install:
-r-xr-xr-x 1 bin bin 98784 Sep 15 2000 #libfmtbtlan4.sl
-r-xr-xr-x 1 bin bin 24576 Sep 29 1996 libfmtLAN100.sl
-r-xr-xr-x 1 bin bin 98784 Jan 22 2001 libfmtbtlan3.1
lrwxr-xr-x 1 root sys 23 Dec 15 13:45 libfmtbtlan3.sl -> /us
r/lib/libfmtbtlan3.1
-r-xr-xr-x 1 bin bin 98784 Sep 15 2000 libfmtbtlan4.sl
-r-xr-xr-x 1 bin bin 564084 Aug 17 1999 libfmtutil.1
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root sys 21 Dec 14 16:32 libfmtutil.sl -> /usr/
lib/libfmtutil.1
but I don't think lan4 and lan3 should be the same size and I can't explain or get rid of the #lib file. I've searched all the archives I can find and there's no reference to this particular problem. I had hoped that someone might have some insight since I see no alternative but to unistall and reinstall the original software and try the 22216 patch again but I'd like to know I won't end up right back here after doing that.
Thanks,
Candie

Re: problems after patch install
Has the system been updated from 10.01 to 10.20 in the past?
I belief you have to reinstall the "/usr/conf/space.h.d/core-hpux.h" from CORE-OS-CD to fix the problem.
Regards,
Armin

Re: problems after patch install
Hi, Candie!
First, don't care about the #lib... file. Obviously the lib is busy right now and was renamed by swinstall. After the next reboot the file should be removed.
Second, it seems to be OK that theses libs have the same size. Just checked this on one of our 10.20 systems.
Third, there may be something corrupted in /usr/conf/master.d, /usr/conf/h or /usr/conf/space.h.d. But before looking into this please try to remove /stand/build and re-try building a kernel using mk_kernel. Sometimes this helps a lot...
Best regards...
Dietmar.
