We have one vpar running in this nPar on an Itanium superdome. We have to build another vpar in this same nPar. I hsve a bootable DVD but I want to boot so I can restore an Ignite tape to this second vPar.
"vparload -p ussbcmp1_vpar -B 2/0/8/1"
comes back with
Alternate Boot path not found
Internal error in setting up vpars variables.
Why does it care if there's an alternate boot path set, I'm not trying to boot it.

Solution
Nope, can't do that - you can't boot a vpar off a DVD - the install kernel on the DVD isn't vpar enabled (i.e. it isn't a relocatable kernel). You either need to setup an Ignite server and boot from that, or return to nPars mode and install on your new disks then back to vPars mode and boot off them.

Re: Problems booting an Itanium vpar
OK, the boot path is just too short to work, but as mentioned before, you cannot install a vPar from the CD/DVD. The vPar software MUST be included to the installed source, so you need to install from a golden *ignite* image or a SD source.
