Problems with boot lan.<ip_addr> install

Hi,

I have an Ignite-UX server on a different network to a client I'm trying to build with 11.11. I've setup a boot helper on the same subnet as the client. It has the same Ignite-UX version as the Ignite-UX server and I've put my client's IP into /etc/opt/ignite/instl_boottab and have configured instl_adm with the right netmask, gateway and Ignite-UX server address...

I then try to boot my client with a boot lan. install and it spews out the failed to initialize error...

Anyone know what might be wrong here?

Funny thing is it's worked before, like yesterday!!

Thanks - Lee

Hi Lee,

What is your server and what is the firmware version? I had this with rp7410 with old firmware, the boot lan always failed

Sandy

Re: Problems with boot lan.<ip_addr> install

Can you list Ignite related software on helper server? You need Ignite Installation Serveice" on that machine. Here is what I have on my helper:

brubtst1 /root_home # swlist -l fileset |grep -i ignite
# Ignite-UX B.5.4.50 HP-UX System Installation Services
Ignite-UX.BOOT-KERNEL-PA B.5.4.50 Installation Boot Kernel for S700/S800 clients
Ignite-UX.BOOT-SERVICES B.5.4.50 Network Boot Services for System Installations
Ignite-UX.FILE-SRV-11-11 B.5.4.50 File Archives Used By Clients During HP-UX Install
Ignite-UX.IGNITE B.5.4.50 Graphical Ignite User Interface for Installations
Ignite-UX.IGNT-ENG-A-MAN B.5.4.50 Ignite-UX Manual Pages
Ignite-UX.MGMT-TOOLS B.5.4.50 Tools for Managing Data Files on an Ignition Server
Ignite-UX.OBAM-RUN B.5.4.50 User Interface Libraries Needed for Older Systems
Ignite-UX.RECOVERY B.5.4.50 System disaster recovery tools
brubtst1 /root_home #

Re: Problems with boot lan.<ip_addr> install

Hi thanks for the replies. I don't think this is a firmware issue because as I said it worked yesterday.

The boot helper has all of the relevant Ignite-UX files on for installing 11.00 and 11.11 and it's the same version as the Ignite-UX server.

Thanks

Re: Problems with boot lan.<ip_addr> install

I trust you however, maybe we can still double check what you have done:

on helper server, when you run instl_adm -d which "route_gateway[0]"? is it a gateway for Ignite server or it is a gateway for helper? I use the gateway for Ignite server and I succeed with Ignite rebuild via helper.
