Problems with rcp and ftp

Hi,

I have problems with ftp and rcp.
At first when I tried to rcp (any user) to or from other clients, I got
rresvport: bind: Permission denied

then I had a look at remsh permission and I changed them in 4755. Now I don't get the previous message anylonger but rcp hangs and no file is copied.
The same problems happens while trying with ftp: it hangs.

What could be the cause of these problems?

thanks in advance

Hi,
are you using DNS ?

Any errors in /var/adm/syslog/syslog.log?

Re: Problems with rcp and ftp

Yes,
I'm using DNS; I have no error messages in syslog. FTP works good until I try to get/put files: I reach the remote host and I login, but I cannot do any copy.

Hi,
Any errors in syslog of remote host ?.
Do you have any firewall sort of thing in between the servers ?

Re: Problems with rcp and ftp

There's no firewall. Both the servers are on the same network.
Also there's no error in any syslog.

Re: Problems with rcp and ftp

What OS release are you running?

why were the permissions of remsh wrong?

What are the permissions of rcp? Who is the owner/group of rcp and remsh??

Re: Problems with rcp and ftp

Well,

OS: 11.00
I don't know why remsh permissions were wrong, I'm investaigating about this. The permission of rcp and remsh are 4755 (bin:bin).

Re: Problems with rcp and ftp

They need to be root:bin, NOT bin:bin.
