process basicdsd

There is a process on one of our servers
D370 HP9000 which is basicdsd.
This runs at infrequent times and I have checked cron and cannot find a cron job which kicks it off. I believe the process is related to patch PHCO_15148. swlist shows this as
PHCO_15148 B.10.00.00.AA HPDPS Year 2000 Safe Cumulative Patch
Can any one help with this as this process spins and then eventually makes a core dump in the root directory filling in to 100%. I have to then delete it in order for my users to access system.

Re: process basicdsd

Hi Paul,

You are correct that this is the DPS spooler daemon. If you are not using DPS, then disable it from starting. Also make sure you don't have
pdclientd. You can either kill them or do a
'pdstopd'.

or do a /sbin/init.d/pd stop

Then edit /etc/rc.config.d/pd and disable all the stuff there.

Re: process basicdsd

We use openspool on our systems, can I therefore assume we do not use the DPS spooler systems/daemons. I am pretty new to this !

Re: process basicdsd

Hi,

You can stop the process as Shridhar mentioned and see whether it stops openspool. If it does stops openspool then you can start the process by issuing same command with start /sbin/init.d/pd start.

Re: process basicdsd

Hi Paul,

Yes you can disable. I guess DPS is kind of default from 10.20 onwards.
