Prolblem with "system" entry in cstm on 11.11 server.

We just ignited an rp3410 with a standard ignite build we have loaded on multiple rp3410's. On this particular server, the "system" entry does not show up on the map in cstm. See below:

phgp0166 500 cdm> cstm
Running Command File (/usr/sbin/stm/ui/config/.stmrc).

This works great on the other rp3410's loaded with the same image. Has anyone else run into this issue?

Thanks in advance!

Hi Chris,

looks like an old version.
Check this page:

http://www.docs.hp.com/en/diag/stm/stm_upd.htm#supported

Hope this helps!

Re: Prolblem with "system" entry in cstm on 11.11 server.

Thanks for the info. We know it is an older version, but unfortunately we cannot update it at the momment due to the our internal UNIX build certification process. The problem right now is that this is the same server configuration we have installed the same image on and this one server is having the problem.

Thanks!

Re: Prolblem with "system" entry in cstm on 11.11 server.

is diagmond running? if not, start it (or restart it) then try cstm again.

/sbin/init.d/diagnostic start

You may also want to check the /etc/rc.log to see if it had a problem starting at boot.

Re: Prolblem with "system" entry in cstm on 11.11 server.

Your version is in the *unsupported* section of the given page. Just think about this.

Anyway, try to restart the diags, wait a while and try again. Have a look at the logs.

Hope this helps!

Torsten.

Re: Prolblem with "system" entry in cstm on 11.11 server.

Thanks for all of the quick responses!!! I have recycled the diagnostic subsystem, no change. Checked the rc.log and it showed no errors during the boot up. I also realize that the version needs to updated and that will be on our list for the next release of the build.

hi chris,

a bit of a long shot for you this but worth checking the networking set up ok

stm doesnt load and run properly if it cannot resolve the hostname of the machine and ip.

check all relevent files, especially if you imaged the server and then modified the networking to suit.

Re: Prolblem with "system" entry in cstm on 11.11 server.

In cstm you can 'remap' to recreate the list of h/w devices.

If after running 'remap' 'system' still doesn't appear in 'map' output, run 'maplog' (in cstm) and check for any errors.

Re: Prolblem with "system" entry in cstm on 11.11 server.

Hi Chris,
A number of things to check.

What is the output of the 'model' commmand on that affected system?

In cstm, what do the 'lml', 'uial' and 'lsal' commands show?

And, yes, you should upgrade to a more recent version of the OnlineDiags, but I don't think that would fix this particular problem if you're not seeing it on other hardware of the same type with the same software installed.

Oh, one other thing, what does the 'map' command in cstm show? Is 'system' listed there?

Re: Prolblem with "system" entry in cstm on 11.11 server.

Once again thanks for the responses! Well this is what I have discovered so far.

1) system does not show up in the map, even after a remap.

2) I also noticed that Memory failed on the remap.
32 8 MEMORY (af) Information FAILED

3) lsal shows:
Daemon process completed with exit_status SYS_MEM_NO_SUPPORT (140) indicating process exited due to unsupported memory configuration. Possible Causes/Recommended Action: Unsupported Memory Configuration.

4) I checked another rp3410 with the same memory configuration, map looks fine in cstm and here is the layout:

Memory Board Inventory

DIMM Slot Size (MB)
--------- ---------
0A 512
0B 512
1A 512
1B 512
2A 512
2B 512
3A 512
3B 512
4A 256
4B 256
5A 256
5B 256
--------- ---------
System Total (MB): 5120

5) Since I cannot run il for Memory on the affected server, I ran a DF on the MP and the memory is laid out the same as all the rest of the rp3410's we have with 5GB of memory. I also did not see any errors with dmesg or in the syslog.log pertaining to memory. When the server boots it sees all 5GB of memory.

I'm at a loss now why it thinks the memory configuration is not supported.

Thanks!

Re: Prolblem with "system" entry in cstm on 11.11 server.

Hi Chris,
That's interesting information, the SYS_MEM_NO_SUPPORT message has been seen when the software doesn't support the hardware, but A.43.25 does have support for the rp3410 (for example, you would get this message, and some others, running A.42.00 on rp34x0, since rp34x0 support was added in A.43.00).

What is the output of the 'model' commmand on that affected system? What is it on an unaffected system?

In cstm, what do the 'lml', 'uial' and 'lsal' commands show? Can you give the full output? (I'd suggest attaching it as a file)

There might be something that gives a clue in the output of the above commands.

My guess at this stage, if the model string is set correctly, would be some sort of firmware or hardware problem. What firmware revisions do you have on this and the other systems?

Andrew

Re: Prolblem with "system" entry in cstm on 11.11 server.

Can do on the points!!! Thanks for the other information and I will do some checking on the HW firmware rev levels. This could be the cause of the problem since this particular rp3410 is a fairly new one and I am comparing it to ones we received last Spring.

Output from model:

9000/800/rp3410

Thanks!

Ok, that looks correct, which rules out one possible cause.
