proliant 800 mods & updates
Hello
I have ben given a prolian t800 with daul p2 450's inthe unit with 256 sdram.
If I instal bios updates can I in stal p3 1Mhz cpu's in th eboard ?
I also wish to switchoveto using IDE drives can I in sstall an IDE controoler card.
Iplan onusing the server asa back up computer formy digital audio recordings. I might con sider using as a recoring computerid can get 1 gig cpu inth eunit as well.
Is it possible to use other brands name sdram inthe ram sockets I have other sticks I can use .
This my fist scsi - server computer so I 'm new to scsi drives and setting up a server box.

Shalom,
You will find it much easier to get help if you read the section you are in. If you were to get hpux to run on that box, this would be a first and you'd be a rich person, because hpux will not run ont hat box.
On the HP Proliant support website there is a cd image you can download. Download the smartstart cd image for your exact server model.
Make a bootable cd following the instructions on the website.
You can boot off this cd and configure disk.
As far as IDE goes, you may have trouble getting a controller card that works. That box may have a proprietary construction, making it impossble to properly install IDE drives.
