Protocal family not supported
Hi there, I was trying to copy a file but got the subject error.
cp: bad copy to XXXXX:read:Protocal family not supported
I am able to ls the file but when doing more/cat if shown "read error".
Any idea?
Thank you for your help in advance.
Simon

Re: Protocal family not supported
Can you copy other files from same disk?
Could be a bad disk. You can try to get a little more certainty by doing a dd(1) read test on the disk:
dd if=/dev/rdsk/... of=/dev/null bs=64k
Watch for read or I/O errors from dd(1) and for driver errors (on the console, in the dmesg(1M) output, etc.).

Re: Protocal family not supported
If you doing a "ls -l" on the file do you get a "file not found" message. YES -try to do a ls -i on that file. Do you get a inode for that file? NO - try to unmount that filesystem and do a fsck. If this will not fix the problem you are not able to remove the file til next reboot. I hope then you have a backup of that file.
