Proxy ARP on HP-UX ?

Dear colleagues!

1. Does HP-UX support Proxy ARP ?
2. If it does, how to enable Proxy ARP on HP-UX ?

Please advise.

Re: Proxy ARP on HP-UX ?

I think you couldn't do it.

Proxy arp is an alternative for subnetting.
But HP-UX use the variable size subnet masks for this solution.

My suggestions:
1. Try to use different subnet masks on different
networks.HP-UX can do it.

2. If you could'nt avoid proxy
ARP choose another device which provide it.(For example
Cisco routers support this)

My questions:
- Why do you want to use it?
Please explain this ...
- Your network clients doesn't
support subnet masks?

Re: Proxy ARP on HP-UX ?

Hello, Pal !
I know that HP-UX can act as a proxy ARP server for individual addresses using the pub option of the arp command.
My question:
Is it possible to enable Proxy ARP on HP-UX for ALL addresses, not just for individual addresses, configured in the ARP cache, say, as in a dial up IP scenario ?
As I know it's possible, e.g. on BSD and Linux.
Thank you
and best regards,

Re: Proxy ARP on HP-UX ?

Hello Dmitry,

if you add a route with the metric 0 you'll get proxy ARPs for that destination.

Sure, Wodisch !
But that will be a Proxy ARP CLIENT, NOT SERVER !
My question was about a Proxy ARP Server function on HP-UX.
