PV display problem

hello all,

when trying to pvdisplay a physical volume i get following error

pvdisplay: Warning: couldn't query physical volume "/dev/dsk/c2t0d0":
The specified path does not correspond to physical volume attached to
this volume group
pvdisplay: Warning: couldn't query all of the physical volumes.
pvdisplay: Couldn't retrieve the names of the physical volumes
belonging to volume group "/dev/vg00".
pvdisplay: Cannot display physical volume "/dev/dsk/c2t0d0"

i tried diskinfo it says: no such device or address

also the device file for this PV is present. both the charachter and block device files.

when trying ioscan -fnC disk it gives no output.

Can anyone tell me what is the prob with the PV

Regards
Sunny

Re: PV display problem

The disk just isn't there, or is not responding at all.
The disk is probably dead, replace it.

Or a serious configuration change has been done on your system, causing the IO-map to be rewritten.

Re: PV display problem

It's gone?

If you boot the server after a disk died, you cannot see this disk in ioscan - there is no NO-HW entry.

Check

# strings /etc/lvmtab
and
# vgdisplay -v vg00

Hope this helps!

Torsten.

Re: PV display problem

The disk is probably dead. Do a string /etc/lvmtab and see what drives vg00 is suppose to contain.

Re: PV display problem

Just an additional thought ... If you say "ioscan -fnC disk" returns no output, that means your system has no disks.
If that is so, where has your system booted from ???

Re: PV display problem

/etc/lvmtab shows the entry of the disk

this disk is a mirror copy of /dev/dsk/c1t0d0

and both these disks are used for secondary swap...

Does this info help

Re: PV display problem

Then your disk /dev/dsk/c2t0d0 is dead.

I only hope "ioscan -fnC disk" still returns /dev/dsk/c1t0d0 ?

Solution

Re: PV display problem

The use of this disk doesn't matter because it is mirrored.

Replace the disk, restore the LVM config and sync.
