QUANTUM DLT VS160 support
I've been testing a QUANTUM VS160 tape drive
under HP-UX 11.11, at PHKL_29899 SCSI Tape
cumulative patch level.
Vxdump to this drive wrote 77GB to one tape
and status - as listed by an 'mt' of the c0t3d0BEST device - showed compression was not
in operation.
Does anyone know if the HP-UX 'stape' driver can or, will in future, allow compression with
a QUANTUM VS160.

Re: QUANTUM DLT VS160 support
Oh it just says ..LUN 0 at&t best density available at address 0/0/1/0.3.0 /dev/rmt/c0t3d0BEST
This device (and one named c0t3d0C) never reports compression on.
This is in contrast to our BENCHMARK DLT-1 drives that always compress when
used with /dev/rmt/c#t#d0BEST.

Re: QUANTUM DLT VS160 support
On the VS160 hardware compression is enabled by default and cannot be disabled.
Density and length parameters can be
specified for Vxdump and density codes in can be used for further
tests with tape devices.
Enhancement request to HP: please add
support for the VS160 to the "stape" driver
so it can be properly recognised by backup applications and the useful LTT&L drive test utility.
