Question about STM

Hi all !

I have a short question about the xstm command: I'm running the GUI and want to see the map of devices. But instead of an hierarchical overview, i just get a list of devices. Do i have to modify /usr/sbin/stm/ui/config/.stmrc ?
The only line not commented is:
SelCurrentSys system add localhost system 1

Any suggestions ?

Re: Question about STM

did you change the options/map to show text only or do you not want the ioscan -fk style output..

I'm not exactly sure what you want to view, do you want to limit the view to disks for example:

ioscan -fnkC disk

?

Re: Question about STM

Hi,

can you try

# /usr/bin/stm -x

or
# stm -x -f ./.stmrc

Re: Question about STM

Hi Bill,

yes, i tried the options/map, but there is no change to the view. I want to see the devices shown as icons, NOT a list.
Niraj, first example starts xstm fine (but not with the icons), your 2nd suggestion starts xstm, but i get an error message: Hostname (localhost) could not be added to the host information list. The fully expanded hostname () is already in the list.

Re: Question about STM

Hi,

The man page of stm says if
don't have displya set properly
then by default mstm runs which
is nothing but menu based stm
command.

SO can you please check wheather you DISPLAY variable is is exported properly.

# export DISPLAY=:0.0
# stm -x

Re: Question about STM

Hello,

This may be silly to ask, but do you have a
/usr/sbin/stm/ui/icons directory? are there any files there and are they readable?

Just my thought

Hope this helps

Re: Question about STM

Try restarting the monitor from the file - administration interface.

If that doesn't work, restart diagnostics and remap your system.

What version are you? A.28.00

options/Map..
first check box should do what you want..

Re: Question about STM

From STM,

Select Options --> Map Options

from the Map Options window,

Deselect the "Display xtm device map in text format" radio button.

Click "OK"

Re: Question about STM

Bill,

the version is A.28.00
What exactly do you mean Is it File>Administration>STM Shutdown/Startup ? I did so, no success.
Then i restarted /sbin/init.d/diagnostics stop,start. Even a system remap didn't fit ...

Yates, i tried your suggestion earlier, but also no success. Strange ...

I now will check out a machine from another team. If anybody has further suggestions - Let me know. I will let you know if i have a solution.

Re: Question about STM

If I'm not mistaken xstm has a limit when it comes to displaying devices icons. If you have 50 or more devices it'll default to text display (list), not icons. I do not know why but I suspect it has to do with X display problem on STM. This might have been fixed.

Re: Question about STM

Hi again !

I checked out the machine from the other team. Chan, you maybe right because we have attached our servers to a SAN. So there are definitely more than 50 devices.
Had a look at the diagnostics home, but didn't find a limitation. Will have a more detailed look in the next few weeks.

Thanx guys !
