Question on Niki Arrays Connected to K-Class servers

Hello All,

I have an HP-UX 10.20 box which is connected to a Niki array. I need to replace the boot drive in this system with a larger drive and in the process I may need to disconnect or export the vg information for the vg's that are on the Niki array. I don't have any experience with the Niki array, and wanted to verify that the information regarding the disk partitrion - logical partitioning of the drives inside the array are saved on the array and not on the operating system - in case the OS gets zapped!! Also, if there is a way to copy the Niki's configuration anywhere.

All advice is appreciated.

best regards,
B.

Re: Question on Niki Arrays Connected to K-Class servers

Hi Babak,

The lun size info is stored on the Nike. After that it is just like any other disk. The vg info is stored on the OS disk. So if you are replacing the OS disk, You have to store the VG info somewhere, take a backup and once you have replaced the disk, restore the VG info from the backup and do a vgimport. Don't you have mirroring. If this root disk is still working, you can take a ignite backup of the root disk and then use that to install OS on the new disk. This way all the softwares and information from the old disk will be restored to the new disk.

Hope this helps.

Re: Question on Niki Arrays Connected to K-Class servers

Thanks Sunjay,
I am actually planning on using ignite-ux to rebuild the vg00 on the larger drive. I wasn't sure on whether I should disconnect the array while I am doing that. And my other concern was that since this is an older array I may have problems powering it up and down.
Any thoughts?
thanks.

Hi Babak,

You should not worry. I have been using the Nike and they have not given me any problem. you don't have to power down and power up the array to do a ignite backup and reinstall the OS.

Hope this helps.

Re: Question on Niki Arrays Connected to K-Class servers

So, we should be ok by just leaving everything connected except for the internal drive I am replacing and restore from a recovery tape?

I wasn;t sure if it would be ok to leave everything conencted while recovering.

Thanks,
B.
