question on sendmail.

I have a server in trusted mode. It is in the dmz of a firewall. Let's say the hostname of the box is abz.xyz.com.

My mailserver for this is apparently mail.xyz.com. From the box, I can mail to yahoo.com, informix.com, anybody.com.
But I CAN'T email to buddy@aaa.xyz.com.

In the mail.log it says there was a timeout trying to read mail.xyz.com. I can't get to this mailserver because the firewall is blocking it.
I can't find anything on the search engine for hp's site (don't know why). And if I search somewhere like google, the question is too vague to get a good answer. I know this should be trivial. I just don't know the answer.

Anybody got an answer out there?

Re: question on sendmail.

All I can make out is the mail address you have mentioned has been blocked in firewall.

Did you check with firewall administrator?

Re: question on sendmail.

Not yet. Do I need to open it more? Look at it this way.

me@abc.xym.com -> bill@yahoo.com FINE
bill@yahoo.com -> buddy@aaa.xyz.com FINE

So, If I'm Bill at yahoo, and I feel like sending this email to buddy, I can get it there. But....

me@abc.xyz.com -> buddy@aaa.xyz.com Busted

Is there perhaps some univeral router I can send the email through? Perhaps my problem is I'm even USING mail.xyz.com?

Re: question on sendmail.

A fair number of folks run mail servers behind their firewall. There's several different approaches -- but when you net everything out, there needs to be a hole in the firewall that allows smtp connectivity to the inside mail server. This configuration is so prevalent that most of the firewall vendors have special commands just for mail. I'd say you need to get the fireall admin to allow you to connect (or provide a suitable solution based on your network architecture).
