Question Regarding ups_conf

Hello,

I have two systems connected to PowerTrust UPSs. My question, and I think the answer is easy but it is just escaping me, is regarding the difference between shutdown_delay_mins and shutdown_timeout_mins. I gather that shutdown_delay_mins is the delay time between when the UPS goes on battery and the system starts to shutdown. But what does shutdown_timeout_mins do? I read the man page but it is not clear to me. Any help would be appreciated and I will assign points.

Re: Question Regarding ups_conf

Peter,

The shutdown_timeout_mins is in case the graceful shutdown hangs. It sets the amount of time that the machine will try to gracefully shutdown before doing a forceful shutdown.

Hope this helps.

Re: Question Regarding ups_conf

Hi Peter:

The shutdown_timeout_mins value determines the time wait for the ups daemon for normal shutdown, before invoking an immediate halt. The normal shutdown will go through the rc scripts and halt after stopping all processes. But immediate halt will not do this. But if shutdown hangs in between ( for any reason), this value counts and if elapsed, the ups daemon will go for immediate halt.
