Dear members,
I have to think about implementing NIS+ on HP-UX 11.00. Up to now, I'm not using NIS or NIS+. We have two servers and about 20 workstations and about 90 active users.
People say, it would be possible to use NIS+ on HP-UX 11.00 trusted systems. Other say, it is too complicated and cumbersome configuring and managing NIS+ on HP-UX 11.00 trusted systems. So, it would be better not to even think about that.
Somehow, I have to make a decision (though I do not have any experience with any NIS version), so I need your help, if you like. Would you, please, answer following questions?
I will give points on that, but, please, give me a few days (I don't want to let appear the bunny too early). I expect about 30 answers until I start to give points. I stop giving points after the 35th answer.
The questions are (try to give short answers):
1. Do you use a trusted system?
2. What is your HP-UX version?
3. How many servers do you have?
4. How many workstations do you have?
5. How many users do you have?
6. Do you use NIS, NIS+, or neither the one or the other? Please, answer "NIS", "NIS+", or "none".
7. If you don't use NIS, do you plan to use it in the future?
8. If you don't use NIS+, do you plan to use it in the future?
9. If you use NIS, do you plan to de-install it? Why?
10. If you use NIS+, do you plan to de-install it? Why?
11. If you use NIS, would you de-install it if it would be just up to you? Why?
12. If you use NIS+, would you de-install it if it would be just up to you? Why?
13. If you use NIS, is it, in your opinion, easy, moderate, or cumbersome in managing/administrating?
14. If you use NIS+, is it, in your opinion, easy, moderate, or cumbersome in managing/administrating?
15. If you use NIS, what percentage of your working hours do you spend in managing/administrating (just give an estimation)?
16. If you use NIS+, what percentage of your working hours do you spend in managing/administrating (just give an estimation)?
17. If you use NIS/NIS+, would you recommend to use NIS?
18. If you use NIS+, would you recommend to use NIS+ on a trusted system?
19. If you use NIS+, would you recommend to use NIS+ on an "untrusted" system?
20. Did I forget a relevant question? Which one? What is your answer?
Thank you.

7. yes
8. No, it's too hard to setup and maintain compare to NIS and there is no fonctionality needed in it.
My experience with NIS come from my "old days" when I was sysadmin at the university of sherbrooke on solaris system (1990-2000). At that time We had 5 servers, 30 workstations and over 1200 users. I was administrating NIS and I would say the management time was under an hour a week. I look at NIS+ but there was really no advantage of using it, and looking at the documentation I found it a lot more cumbersome to configure and to manage and most of the comments I had on it at that time was stay away from it.
