I have a quick question about the technical computing operating environment for 11i. I just tried to do a cold install from the June 2003 11i cds on a 32bit box. When doing the instal it comes to the menu where i choose my operating enviroment and I do not see TCOE. Is TCOE only supported on 64 bit servers? I just need to confirm that I will be able to see, choose and install the TCOE enviroment on a 64 bit server.
thanks
Richard

Re: Quick question about the TCOE for 11i ..
I'm probably wrong, but I thought that TCOE was Workstation only?

Re: Quick question about the TCOE for 11i ..
I believe Pete's correct.
TCOE & MTOE (Minimum Tech Operating Environment) are for 700 series (workstation) systems.
Are you trying to load this on a W/S?
What model is this system?
You may also want to consider upgrading the firmware on this system to the latest version - it may be necessary.

Jeff

A technical server is the name given in recent times to larger workstations that act as servers, in a technical environment
The systems you are trying to install it on are listed as comercial servers, and not technical servers.
I am unsure of this, but I believe the TCOE will look at the system model string to try to identify it as a supported system, and if it does not find it, may give you the symptom you are seeing, but I may be wrong.

And even though they call them workstations, a racked J-class is dang near a server in my opinion.

Seems like these may actually be supported.

Re: Quick question about the TCOE for 11i ..
AFAIK the distinction between "workstation" and "server" has blurred almost to extinction, at least insofar as software. I also believe that "technical" is more an application set rather than hardware.
I agree that a firmware check is in order. Table-1 and Table-2 in the link below document D-class firmware requirements.
The document (link below) notes:
/begin_quote/
Like the Minimal Technical Operating Environment, the Technical Computing Operating Environment (TCOE) contains all the base functionality that is common to the other four OEs, including the base 32/64-bit HP-UX Operating System, network drivers, and other always-installed functionality. While it is not a superset of the standard 11i OE, it is a superset of the Minimal Technical OE. Unlike the Minimal Technical OE, however, the Technical Computing OE is available on both technical servers and workstations.

Re: Quick question about the TCOE for 11i ..
The following doc ( http://docs.hp.com/hpux/onlinedocs/5187-1350/5187-1350.html ) leads me to believe that.
I looked in the "Install / Update System Requirements" -> "System Requirements" section.

SolutionHere's the link to the latest D370 firmware - 42.11.
I'd strongly recommend you get and apply this before you try to load the OS (OE - whatever)
