RAC 10g Implementation

Hi,

Can you suggest an implementation document for ORACLE RAC 10g on HP-Unix 11.23 please.

I am not ordering MCservice guard and VxVM. My machine is gonna be 2 X rx7640 with EMC storage.I was searching the docs on RAC and I was surprised to see all the documets talks abour RAC MSSG, does that means RAC 10g is not possible without MCSG ? Please advise .

Check this thread:

"The difference between me and you? I will read the man page." and "Respect the hat." and "You could just do a search on ITRC, you don't need to start a thread on a topic that's been answered 100 times already." Oh, and "What. no points???"

Re: RAC 10g Implementation

Thanks Court. That thread answered most of my questions.

I was wondering if we have any documented procedure ( kind if installation manual) of RAC10g on HP-Unix ??

Thanks in advance.

Re: RAC 10g Implementation

I don't think there is a lot of documentation/howto's for 10g rac on hp-ux. I notice most people implement 10g rac on linux. I would assume because the hardware and software are cheaper.

Re: RAC 10g Implementation

While HP has prepared some whitepapers to facilitate Oracle RAC Installs on HP servers, the onus for optimal instructions really lies with Oracle don't you agree?

Oracle Doc starting point:

Install specific:

RAC specific:
http://www.oracle.com/pls/db102/portal.portal_db?selected=16

"Oracle Clusterware and Oracle Real Application Clusters Installation and Configuration Guide for hp HP-UX PA-RISC (64-Bit)"

http://download-east.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/install.102/b14202/toc.htm

It has hardware requirements and so on.
The HP Techforum always has interesting sessions on Oracle RAC

In 2006 those were:

1060 - HP Serviceguard and Oracle 10g Real Application Cluster with Clustered File System (Asghar Riahi)

1155 - Improving Oracle Performance on HP-UX Systems Using Veritas Software (Frank Haase)

I believe there were also relevant sessions by Bob Sauers.

Re: RAC 10g Implementation

HP has a course which includes multiple instances of oracle in a SG cluster, RAC and continental clusters.. U8601 It is a 3 day course where RAC is setup with ServiceGuard, SLVM, and raw logical volumes. There are other choices to use CFS with CVXVM and oracle's ASM.

Re: RAC 10g Implementation

Shalom,

VxVM is surely not necessary for RAC 10g.

Serviceguard is another matter. RAC has its own clustering system, designed by Oracle, however Serviceguard seems to be needed in order to have a lock disk to keep the cluster communicating properly. We need it to manage the NFS cluster where logs get written.

So it is my belief that SG is necessary. But I can't say I'm sure.

Reading assignment.

My read on the documents seems to agree with you. I can't find a document that says its required for HP-UX. Though it may be a good idea.
