Re-installing Printer in SAM

I've installed a HPLJ-4000tn printer to HP-UX v10. I believe i installed the incorrect driver in SAM because I'm getting a squished print out when doing screenshots. I can remove the printer from SAM, but everytime I go to re-install the printer, it recognizes the previous drivers and i'm unable to re-select a different driver for it. How do I *completely* remove all history of the HPLJ-4000tn printer so that I can reinstall it from a clean state?

Thanks,

Regis

Re: Re-installing Printer in SAM

Shalom,

Honestly, I think you may have misdiagnosed the problem.

Being an HP printer, its likely HP's automated decision is correct, unless the printer is significantly newer than the OS, which is of course pretty old and out of support.

There are options of swlist that should let you after installation see where all the install files are.

swlist -l product -a fileset | grep ...

I believe.

You may wish to look in /var/spool/lp and manually(carefully) remove files related to that printer from there.

Re: Re-installing Printer in SAM

There are no drivers for printers in HP-UX. There are some printer scripts but unless you use -o options with lp, the script does nothing to the print job. Now I am assuming that this printer is connected directly to the LAN, and that when you used SAM, you added the printer as a 'network' printer and not a 'remote' prionter. You can bypass the lp spooler completely and print direct to the printer with hpnpf:

hpnpf -x 12.34.56.78 -n /etc/profile

This will produce a normal ASCII listing. If the text is squished, someone has messed with the defaukt settings on the printer, a big no-no for network printers. Just cold reset the printer.

Re: Re-installing Printer in SAM

Thanks Steven and Bill.

I've been able to install 6-7 printers from the network to the system just fine. I will try the 'cold reset' of the printer to return it to default state. The printer does work just fine when printing from a PC though...Will let you know how it turns out. Thanks for the suggestion.
