Re : Veritas Netbackup problem
Below is a backup procedure that was carry out everyday, due to the constrain for the access of the IT stafff to the Unix hosts, can someone advice if there is a better way or there is way to carry out from the netbackup console ??
1) Every day we do backup on 2 SDLT tapes on the autoloader. 1 for development server, 1 for production server.
2) As we need to store the tapes off-site daily, we need to remove the tapes physically. After removing the 2 tapes from the autoloader, we
need to update the inventory using vmupdate : $VOLBIN/vmupdate -rn 0
-rt tld -rh lisprd -h lisprd
3) After importing the tape for the backup, we need to update the tape inventory with the above command and specify the slot the tape is using
this command:
$VOLBIN/vmphyinv -rn 0 -rh lisprd -h lisprd -slot_list $slot_no -d dlt . We need to do this for 2 tapes.
A script has been written for this, but it is very troublesome as we do not allow access to all IT staff into unix. I was told that the commands cannot be set to run at a fixed time, due to the prompting of the slot no.
Is there a easier way to handle all this?
If not, can this be done at the Netbackup Admin console?
Kindly help and advice??
Regards
Vincent

Re: Re : Veritas Netbackup problem
Yes, it can all be done at the Netbackup admin console.
To know why Unix users are not able to access the system it would be necessary to see the script.
If the admin console settings are correct you should be able to avoid that inventory update as well, because Netbackup can do that by itself.
I'd like to know what version of netbackup is installed and then some advice will be possible to help.

Re: Re : Veritas Netbackup problem
All of this can be done at the management console for Veritas 4.5
I am not a Veritas 4.5 admin, though my employer has required me to learn it well enough to do backups and restores.
This really is a Veritas support call.
I can only tell you that we did what you wish with 4.5 and do so with 5.0 Veritas.
Good Luck, don't be afraid to work with the GUI console. Your current setup isn't all that good anyway.
When it came to Unix issues at install, I found Veritas support competant, but of course not at HP's high level.
