Re: re

There is no reason to go to single user mode to create an Ignite tape. You should do it when the system is quiet, like overnight, but you don't have to wait if you need to do it sooner.

Since you are new to Ignite I am sure that you downloaded the newest version if so the command line to create a tape may be a little daunting to you but it is really simple. The one I use is:

/opt/ignite/bin/make_tape_recovery -v -I -x inc_entire=vg00 -a /dev/rmt/1mn

This says to create a tape Verbally and force it to be Interactive and include the entire vg00 if you need to point to a specific tape device and make sure that it is no-rewind
If it has wheels or a skirt, you can't afford it.

Re: re

make_tape_recovery should not be used in single user mode.

Its designed to work while the system is in networked operation mode. Filesystems that are unmounted in vg00 may not be included.

Re: re

Hi,

Yes you can issue the 'mount -a' command, or or can mount just the filesystems that you wish. You are doing any sort of mainetenance and you do need some commands, you need to at least mount /usr and maybe /var
