Reboot after panic: Bad News!

Hello all,

we have an rx2600 11:23 server that rebooted twice last night - the only errors in shutdownlog are:

18:38 Sun May 21 2006. Reboot after panic: Bad News!

19:49 Sun May 21 2006. Reboot after panic: Bad News!


I've checked syslog prior to the system going down and can't find anything wrong - no errors, no mail messages indicating a problem. It did produce 2 crash dumps and when I look in the INDEX file they both just state:
"panic Bad News!" and nothing else!

Has anyone seen this before?

Shalom,

Set crashdumps to save.

/etc/rc.config.d/savecrash

SAVECRASH=1

You will get a crash dump next time it happens to q4 analyze and send to hp.

You will find you are missing patches.

Start with the March 2006 quarterly update and work from there.

Hi,

It has produced 2 crash dumps - I guess I wasn't clear about that. When I look at each of the crash dumps INDEX file the first 5 lines give system info then you have a line that starts with "panic" and gives a brief message on what caused the panic such as kernel or memory issue - both of these crash dumps just say Panic Bad News - there are other image files which I'll send to HP - I was just wondering if anyone had seen this before?

Hi Annelise,

I've seen the message "Bad News" in the patch description of patch PHKL_34666. But I think this patch is for cell based itanium systems.

Just checked and it hasn't got latest OS patches on - so will arrange a convenient time to install them and will keep monitoring - will close this thread - thanks for everyones help - and if I have any update on this I'll inform everyone,
