reboot error

One of my dba' s killed all the processes, paniced and turned off my L2000 running on 11i.

after turning it back on it does not seem to want to restart. It gives me an unexpected shutdown error and then quits on me.

I can not start up the machine and need any advise available.

Re: reboot error

Do you have any Ignite Backup Tape? you can try with that.
OR
Do you know anyother bootable kernel in the M/C like vmunix.prev try with that.
OR
Try to boot it in single user mode by giving hpux -is in the ISL Prompt.

By the way, what is the exact error message? Can you post it?

Re: reboot error

Any exact error messages will be extremely helpful.

Now, take all root access away from your DBA. There is absolutely no reason that anyone should be out there killing processes indiscriminately!!!!

Re: reboot error

Harry,

See if you can get into single user mode and if so run mount -a. Check for filesystem warnings that prompt you to run fsck on them.
Also, update with more info as you get it.

If the server will not restart then more than killing procs went on.

Grab the DBA by the short and curlies and entice him to tell you what else he did.

Eric's solution should get your server back up.

Once up check all the .sh_history files to find out what this moron did.

Then take away root access and his legs.

Re: reboot error

Perhaps you can boot off support media and start a recovery shell (I forget the "proper" terminology as I'm not in the office). I presume that's possible with an L.

Since your DBA turned off the system, this also points out how important physical security is for your server.

Try to boot the system in single user mode from ISL prompt. If that fails then try to boot system in sigle user mode with alternate kernel.

Hope it will happen. Please provide exact error message to us.

Best of luck
