Re: recover a telnet unresponsive GSP how to?

Don't know a way to check the GSP parms without direct GSP access. The GSP may need a manual reset. Most models have a button on the back panel or inside an access panel.

Hi,

You may reset the GSP mannualy, there is a reset button on the back of the server. Have you tried to connect directly?

Re: recover a telnet unresponsive GSP how to?

James,

Once GSP stops responding to commands there are two things you can try:

1. break out of your telnet session and reastablish a new session. Sometimes the the signaling of the breakage releases whatever is holding up gsp.

2. if #1 fails, you only have one option, which is suggested in previous answers: do a manual hard reset on the physical server itself.

Re: recover a telnet unresponsive GSP how to?

Thank you all for your replies. You may have guessed already that my server in question is remote. But it seems like having access to it might be the only solution. I will try a hard reset when possible.

I thought there may be another way to reach to it and/or configure via console in a similar way with setboot or via stty.

Re: recover a telnet unresponsive GSP how to?

This is too common of a incidence, at least for me in the past. I am assuming you are using the GSP lan interface not GSP over the serial console. Right ? To prevent this from happening, if this is a onesy-twosy server location, find an ol intel class machine with winXp pro loaded on it and connect this machine via serial cable to the serial console port of this HP9000. Also make the machine available over your LAN for a remote desktop session.

If GSP lan fails, you will have a way of getting to the server using this remote desktop solution.

Of course if this is a remote data center with bazillion servers, a serial terminal server solution is in order to accomplish the same over a multitude of machines

Re: recover a telnet unresponsive GSP how to?

Thanks Mel,

The WinXP box wouldn't fit in my environment if you know what I mean but I got the idea :)

A Digi serial device would do. It have never happened to me with an alom or an ilo so far. There could be a firmware upgrade somewhere I wonder...

Thanks again,

Re: recover a telnet unresponsive GSP how to?

If if the GSP is "well hung", I doubt a direct connect via the serial port would respond, either.
