Recovering Vpar from Tape device

Hi All

I have vpar_1 on rx8640 server. i did an ignite on tape device into MSL2024 FO library (make_tape_recovery -I -x inc_entire vg00 -a /dev/rmt/1mn). Now need to restore this vpar from this ignite tape. i insert the tape into the device and need to boot vpar from this tape devie into this FO library with commande vparload -p vpar_1 -B TAPE. have error '''No Tape device found'''
I am sur this vpar is the owner of the target tape device.
trying to set the ALTBOOT of vpar_1 on the tape device target and starting -E 1. the error is '''fs1:\efi\hpux\vparconfig.efi' not found'''.
Any suggestion please?

Waiting your reply.

Re: Recovering Vpar from Tape device

I don't think the vPar can directly boot from a SAN based tape - you need to boot the install kernel (from ignite server or DVD), then restore from tape.

Hope this helps!

Re: Recovering Vpar from Tape device

But you can specify a boot device.

Most easy method would be to boot from an ignite server, using the vpars dbprofile option.

Hope this helps!

Torsten.

Re: Recovering Vpar from Tape device

... you simply need to install the ignite software on another server and boot the install kernel (see vparsdbprofile option). Stop at the user interface, select

-> Install HP-UX -> select Advanced Installation -> Recovery tape -> GO!

(assuming the tape is already loaded into the drive). IMHO this should work.

Hope this helps!

Torsten.
