recovery_tape

I'm wondering if I can use my library (HP MSL5000) attched to my SAN switch to create recovery tapes for my HP-UX servers ?

I have no tape drive directly attached to my server. Can I make use of this library for my recovery purpose.

Any advice is Highly appreciated

Re: recovery_tape

ignite will only work on a locally connected tape drive.

In your situation you should probably be looking at setting up an ignite server so you can recover over the network. Primary requirement for your ignite server is plenty of disc space. You could then, if you wanted, make recovery tapes from the ignite server.

Re: recovery_tape

Actually you can create the tape, you just can't boot directly from it...

Of course if you're using an Itanium (rx) system, this won't matter as you can't boot directly off tape anyway...

See this part of the Ignite manual for a workaround which might suit you:

Re: recovery_tape

Hi

While we select the boot device from PDC with sea command , the tape library drives will not be available. So u cannot boot through those drives.
The best way is to configure a ignite server, make net archives and keep it and restore them through network, when required.
